BRC News: Winter Conditioning and Other Great Updates

Welcome Back! Winter Conditioning for the Spring 2012 season is here and we will be on the water before you know it.

Note: Please bare with me as I update our Team Roster.  If you have new email addresses or if you are receiving emails and will not be rowing with us this spring please send me an email and I will remove your name from our communications listgroup.

1. Winter Conditioning Starts Wednesday, January 18.  This is mandatory training for Novice and Varsity Rowers.  (Optional for Modified Rowers at no extra charge.) Rowers can be excused from Winter Conditioning or approved for a late start only if you are participating in a Winter sport but you must have approval from your coach.

Due to the limited number of ergs, practices will be split into the following times/groups:

  • Modified Rowers, 9th and 10th graders will practice from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • 11th and 12th graders will practice from 4:30pm to 6:00pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

NEW LOCATION:  Brookside School (off Winton Rd. near Westfall Rd.)

  • 3:00 pm Transportation will be provided for the early practice only.  The BHS Sport Bus #22 will pick up at Brighton High School at the back of the parking lot (closest door to the tennis courts).
  •  Transportation is not available for the 4:30 pm practice. Please connect with other rowing parents to coordinate carpools for the 4:30 pm pick up, 4:30 pm drop off and 6:00pm pick up.

A list of those who will be practicing during which times will be confirmed via email by Tuesday, Jan 17. We apologize for the delay in releasing this information but we are still waiting to hear from some rowers.  Please contact Rhonda Miga if you have car pool questions (communications@brightoncrew.org)

2. Registration:  Please mail paper forms and payment to:  Carolyn Bower, BRC Registrar, 30 Dunbarton Drive, Rochester, NY 14618-4446.

For those of you who completed your registration prior to January 1, 2012, we have added the Electronic/On-line USRowing Waiver information to the BRC Website (under the Registration Checklist tab).  NOTE: You will need BRC’s Club Number to complete the electronic registration: 37JE4).  This # has also been added to the Registration Check-list.

Remember, ALL pieces of registration must be completed before rowers will be allowed on the water this season. Carolyn will be contacting each rower confirming registration is complete and/or if you are missing anything.

3. Mark your Calendar now. Our mandatory Parent Meeting is scheduled for March 7 at 7:00 pm in the Brighton High School Cafeteria. We will review

  • ROW FREE in Spring 2012. Reminder, the drawing for FREE Dues will take place at the parent meeting.  Details can be found on the front page of the BRC website (www.brightoncrew.org) or contact Rhonda for more details.
  • Volunteer Needed:  We need one parent to volunteer to help Carolyn man our Registration/Info table at the parent meeting. If you are willing to help out, please contact Rhonda or Carolyn (communications@brightoncrew.org or registrar@brightoncrew.org)

4. Seeking New Rowers.  Nows the time to spread the word and get your friends involved in rowing.  We would like our rowers to hold an informational session at the HS in the near future. So, connect with each other, pick a date and spread the word.
