Month: May 2013

USRowing National Learn-to-Row Day: Sat, June 6, 1-4PM

Get your friends to try rowing! Challenge your swimming, running, XC-skiing and other friends to a REAL workout!

BRC parents: great opportunity to experience your kids’ hard work!

Tour the boathouse, get a crash course in indoor rowing (on the erg), learn the basics of the rowing stroke, equipment and programs offered at Genesee Rowing Club (adults) and Brighton Rowing Club (grades 7-12).  The visit culminates in an on-the-water rowing experience in an “eight” with an experienced coxswain and rowers (weather permitting).

Click here for more info, or contact Stephanie at volunteer@brightoncrew.org.

Where: Genesee Valley Park off Moore Road (East side of the river, near Elmwood and U of R)

Some Buffalo Regatta Logistics (Sun, 5/5/13)

Just some info for Novice parents and rowers:

  • Leave Rochester by 6 AM to arrive at regatta site by 7:30.  Rowers should eat breakfast before they arrive.
  • Westside Rowing Club is 40 Porter Ave, Buffalo, NY, an industrial/park area where Lake Erie becomes the Niagara River, a few blocks from where Google Maps says it is.
  • When you exit US190 and turn Left onto Porter Ave, OK to park on the street or other marked areas.  Follow the crowd and walk the 1/2-mile or so to the site.
  • Spring rowing events are different than Fall:  Time Trials in the AM.  Top x# of finishers compete later in the Finals.
  • Brighton has 8 entries in the Time Trials (click here for preliminary schedule).  If they all do well, there could be 8 Finals! (click here for schedule)
  • Last possible BRC race: Men’s Jr. 4+, 3:40PM.
  • Bring your sunscreen and binoculars…warm and sunny this time!
  • Good luck, rowers!  🙂
