BRC News 12/12/15: Happy Holidays, Everyone!

Santa Rowing Sleigh

  1. Year-end appeal:   The kindness and generosity of the Brighton Rowing Club family helps us to offer a wonderful rowing experience. We are grateful for all of our fabulous parent volunteers. Without you we would not be able to provide our kids with a great crew team.
The end of the year is a time when many people make their contributions to the organizations they care about.  If you have a relative or friend who would like to make a donation in honor of your child, or if you would like to make a donation to Brighton Rowing Club, please send your tax-deductible donation to: BRC, PO Box 18724, Rochester, NY, 14618.
  2. Order BRC merch from Athletic Outlet ASAP in time for Christmas!
  3. Off-season fitness opportunities:
    1. Experienced BRC rowers welcome at GRC tanks sessions at Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center.  Click Here for schedule and more info.  Register for a 6-week session or drop in whenever it’s convenient.  ($20/session drop-in fee.  Makes a great gift!  😉  )
    2. “Foster Erg Program”:  Ergs need a warm winter home away from the un-heated boathouse.   Contact coach Will if you’d like one to train at home until spring.  Download the form, complete and return to me.
    3. Group workouts:  rowers can get together to stay fit and strong until Winter Training.  Motivation available at Row2k.
  4. BRC Board Meetings:  Are Wednesdays, 7PM, 93 Southern Parkway.
    1. Meetings are open to all members and parents.  Let us know if you’d like to attend (prospective members urged to attend!)
    2. Please submit any agenda items to Irene Allen, Board Secretary, at irene.allen@brightoncrew.org.
  5. Volunteers still needed for key roles.  Other local clubs require a certain number of volunteer hours per family; BRC has not had to do this in the past, but it will be necessary if new parents don’t step forward.
    1. Registrar
    2. Volunteer Coordinator
    3. Board Secretary
    4. Board Members-at-Large (2-3 needed)
  6. Looking forward to Winter and Spring:
    1. Winter training will be at ROC Boxing, starting mid-January.  Stay tuned for details.
    2. No practice during February break.
    3. Spring on-water practice for Novice/Varsity starts Monday, 3/28/16, which is the week of BHS Spring Break.  Rowers are expected at every practice.  Coaches expect that you don’t plan vacations, college visits, etc… during this break.
    4. Modified season starts week of 4/4/16.  TBA if practices will be held Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs.  If you have a strong preference, please let me know and I’ll share this with Coaches.Spring Regatta
