BRC News 1/31/17: Thanks for Tanks; New Coaches and Board Members

  1. Thank you, everyone, who came to the Tanks!  We had a nearly-full house of experienced rowers and friends on Sunday, Jan 29 at Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center.  Newcomers were boys and girls from 6 (SIX!) different schools!  It was a great way to introduce the sport to prospective rowers for the Spring Season.
  2. New Assistant Coaches:  Tanks session was also an opportunity to meet 3 of our 4 new Assistant Coaches.  More info and bios coming soon:

  3. New Board Members/Titles:  The Board works thru the off-season to prepare for Spring and beyond.  There has been a LOT done to keep us “afloat”.  As rowers move on, new parents step into open roles:
    1. Becky Davidson is BRC Board President
    2. Beth Poland is Secretary
    3. Jonathan Friedberg joins Surendar Jeyadev as Treasurer
    4. AnnMarie Schneider is Registrar
    5. Faithe Bassett is Regatta Director/Equipment Manager
    6. Stephanie Siegrist is Communications Director
    7. Thank you, Deana King, for all of your help with Staffing and Programming!
    8. Thank you, Tracy Schleyer for serving as Secretary; Geoff Hale for serving as Treasurer; Irene Allen for Program Director-and-Everything Else!
    9. Next Board Meeting is Wed, Feb 8th, 7-8:30PM (second Tuesday of each month).  Please contact any Board member with concerns or agenda items, or if you’re willing to help support your kid’s club as Member-at-Large.
  4. Parent Meeting and Swim Tests for new rowers will be on Wed, March 22, 7-8PM at BHS Cafeteria.  More info to come.
  5. Winter Training going well, per Coach Bex!

BRC News 1/22/17: Winter Training Starts Tomorrow; Try the Tanks

  1. Winter Training starts Monday, January 23.
    1. Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 3:30-5:00pm
    2. At the University of Rochester Rowing Dry Land Training Center.
      1. GOOGLE MAPS IS WRONG:  Training center is located in the basement of the Brooks Crossing Apartments (next to the Staybridge Suites at Genesee St and Brooks Ave.).  Entrance is at water-level, facing the river.
      2. From Brighton:  drive West on Elmwood, cross the river, turn Right onto Genesee St.  Drive North a few blocks to Staybridge Suites on your Right.  Follow signs re: parking.
      3. From west side:  390S to Scottsville Rd exit, North on Scottsville, becomes Genesee St.  Continue a few blocks to Brooks Ave., Staybridge Suites on your Right.  Follow signs re: parking.
      4. Parents can come in to see the facility, but not stay for the whole workout.  There’s a coffee shop across the street.
      5. Many U of R students/staff nearby, but be alert and don’t leave valuables in your car.
      6. WEAR:  your workout clothes (no locker room access; bathrooms only).
      7. BRING:  clean, non-marking sneakers, water bottle, towel, snack to re-fuel after practice.
    3.  BRC Coaches Bex, Chris , Cameron and Anna Marie will run the workouts (Welcome 2 of our new assistant coaches!)

      2. Tuesday and Thursday, 4-5:45pm
    3. Practice WILL be held over April Break (4/14-21/17)…Coaches expect that Varsity and Novice  Rowers don’t plan vacations, etc… during the Easter break.  First regatta is Sunday, 4/23.

BRC News 1/8/17: Happy New Rowing Year!

  1. Details coming soon about Spring team goals/values/expectations, training/racing plans, and 2-3 additional assistant coaches.  Coaches, Board Members and Rowers learned much over the Fall season, and have plans for an exciting Spring!
