BRC News 3/26/17: Back at the Boathouse; Registration Wrap-up

  1. Thank you everyone who attended the Parent Meeting and had a chance to meet our coaches and hear about all the new stuff for the season.
  2. Payments:  DO NOT bring your registration checks to the boathouse!  Please mail them to: Treasurer, Brighton Rowing Club; PO Box 18724; Rochester, NY 14618
  3. Welcome new rowers and families!
    1. Forms/Waivers/Handbook:  If you need a copy/instructions about these, please contact Registrar AnnMarie.Schneider@brightoncrew.org or Board President becky.davidson@brightoncrew.org.
    2. All new rowers must pass a swim test.  We’ll schedule a new date soon for recent registrants.
    3. You’ll receive team-related emails and Weekly News posts regularly.  Please check your email daily for practice updates, and make sure your rower sends me their email address so they’ll get the messages in their own inbox. If you don’t see the emails, check your spam or contact me.
    4. Updated team rosters will arrive via separate email.
  4. “On-Water” practice begins Monday, 3/27 for Varsity and Novice.
    1. New practice times:  3:30-5:15.  Coaches will be off water by 5:15, then have a team debriefing before dismissal.
    2. Anyone who borrowed an erg has to bring it back to the boathouse by 5:15PM on Monday.
    3. Modified practice starts Tuesday, 4/4, 3:30-5:15PM.
    4. River flow rate or debris may not allow safe conditions at first. ALWAYS dress for the weather, bring sneakers for land workouts and your water bottle.  WEAR BOOTS this week because it’s muddy!
    5. First day of practice will be spent rigging boats and organizing our stuff.  St. John Fisher Crew moved into the boathouse over the winter.
  5. Parking Lot Parents:  A parent is needed to supervise pick up at the end of each regular season practice.  Our coaches have other responsibilities that may require them to leave at the end of practice before all rowers have gone home.  Each family is responsible for a minimum of 2-3 days.  Details and Sign Up Here.
  6. Merch!
    1. Novice:  order your uniform T-Shirt ASAP (along with other cool stuff) to be sure you have it for our first regatta 4/30.
    2. Varsity: I have an XS girls and Med boys uni ($25), and 3 Med and 1 Large tech shirt ($20) if you need one for spring.

BRC News 3/12/17: This Week’s Workout; Successful Fest

  1. There is no official BRC practice this week. However, keep training on your own!
Helen has contacted Coach Dom at ROC Boxing, where BRC has trained in the past.  Dom is available to host workouts this week for BRC drop-ins:

    1. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 3/14, 16, 17.
    2. ROC-coached kettlebell training, 3:30-4:30PM.   Stay later for cardio, if you can.
    3. 524 Atlantic Avenue, near Sticky Lips on Culver, (585) 254-3280, coachdom@rocboxing.com.
    4. Each practice $10, total $30 for 3 sessions. Attend as many as you can.
    5. Since this is not an official BRC event, you’ll pay ROC directly and will need a parent to sign their waiver.  Download waiver HERE.
    6. If you can’t attend these practices, be sure to keep up with your training by erging, lifting, running etc. Remember: you earn your medals over the winter and you pick them up in the spring! Your hard work will pay off!
    7. Back to UR Training Facility M/W/F, 3/20, 22, 24.  Back to the boathouse 3/27!
  2. Thank you Maddy, Alyssa, Shelby, Mikayla, Eric and Coaches Bex and Cam for a successful Festival of Ideas!  We had 15 kids, many of whom have already had some experience with erging at TCMS gym class.
  3. Parent Meeting, Wednesday, March 22, 7-8PM at BHS cafeteria.

    2. If you have friends who’d make good rowers, invite their parents to the meeting to learn about BRC!
