BRC News 4/17/17: Bigger than BRC

Some hot topics for the holiday week, FYI:

  1. Genesee Valley Park Clean-Up, Saturday, 4/22, 10am-12Noonish at the boathouse:  After GRC’s practice to pick up litter/sticks, rake out ruts in the mud and get our home ready for Spring season.  Bring your tools and work gloves!
  2. Genesee RiverWatch is hosting its 4th Annual Genesee River Basin Summit on June 15, 2017.  The topic is “River Access and Recreational Opportunities.”   There are 8 rowing clubs headquartered at our little corner of the river…what does the future hold?  The Summit is at RIT, open to the public, only $15.
  3. George Washington University Rowing Club:  2016 BRC alum Ryan Moorthi is a freshman at GW where there is no club rowing–only a D1 team. He and several other passionate rowers are spearheading an effort to create a student-run GW Rowing Club.   Their first step is to get University approval as a student organization.  He is reaching out for any type of contribution: donation, helpful information, or spreading the word.  They have a GoFundMe page, or you can contact Ryan at rmoorthi488@gmail.com.

BRC News 4/3/17: Modified start 4/4, Parking Lot, Ithaca Update

  1. Welcome to our new and returning Modified rowers!  Practice starts Tuesday, 4/4, 3:30-5:15PM
    1. Team rosters will arrive via separate email so you can plan your car pools.
    2. Dress for the weather!  Long sleeves; layers to keep warm that you can peel off as you warm up in the boat; hat.  Wear boots to the boathouse (the site is muddy), but always bring sneakers in case of land practice.  Warm, dry sweatshirt or jacket to wear home.
    3. You’ll receive team-related emails and Weekly News posts regularly.  Please check your email daily for practice updates, and make sure your rower sends me their email address so they’ll get the messages in their own inbox. If you don’t see the emails, check your spam or contact me.
  2. Parking Lot Parents:  A parent is needed to supervise pick up at the end of each regular season practice.  Each family is responsible for a minimum of 2-3 days.  Details and Sign Up Here.
  3. Ithaca Regatta, Sunday 4/30?  We didn’t realize that BRC had to be invited; the hosts have limited space for boat trailers/tents.  Coach Bex is working with the hosts and other Rochester-area rowing clubs to share a trailer and secure our invitation.   If it doesn’t work out, Bex will organize a scrimmage with our river-neighbors Mercy and McQuaid.  Stay tuned.  Sorry for the confusion.
  4. Payments:  DO NOT bring your registration checks to the boathouse!  Please mail them to: Treasurer, Brighton Rowing Club; PO Box 18724; Rochester, NY 14618
  5. Merch!
    1. Novice:  order your uniform T-Shirt ASAP (along with other cool stuff) to be sure you have it for our first regatta 4/30.
    2. Varsity: I have an XS girls and Med boys uni ($25), and 3 Med and 1 Large tech shirt ($20) if you need one for spring.
    3. Modified do not need uniforms, but are welcome to order BRC FanGear.
    4. Clearance Sale!  There’s a new page  on our website under Merchandise…good stuff!
