On Wednesday, November 13th Brighton High School held its signing ceremony for seniors accepted into collegiate sports programs. Two varsity Brighton Rowing Club members were among those at the signing, Maya Torres-Panzer and Annalise Yartz. Coach Ogden was there to share their accomplishments and highlight the strengths they each brought (and still bring) to the Brighton Rowing Club.
Maya Torres-Panzer started with the Brighton Rowing Club as a novice when she was in 8th grade. Maya has had a very successful rowing career while with the Club. During her sophomore year, she won the U17 single at the NYS Championships and then went on to bring home third place at the US Rowing Youth National Championships. In her Junior year, she was part of a Brighton Rowing Club team that won the Girls Scholastic Varsity 4 at the state level. Maya will be attending Dartmouth College in the Fall of 2025 rowing for their D1 crew team.
Annalize Yartz began with the Brighton Rowing Club as a novice and in her second year determined that her ideal role was as coxswain, the person who steers the boat and makes calls for the team. Being a coxswain requires consistent and ongoing assessment of the conditions during a race such as water current, wind, closeness to shore, other boats, boat speed, and much more to navigate the team to the finish. Annalise will be attending Sacred Heart University in the Fall of 2025 as a coxswain for their D1 crew team.
Congratulations to Maya and Annalise!
